• PeRks Wins SLCG 09 25.12.2009 - 21:37 - General
Team PeRks proved again and again that they are the best team in Sri Lanka when in comes to Call of Duty 4 by becoming the champions of Sri Lanka Cyber Games 09. Event was held from 18th - 20 the December in Capitol Mall, Thalawathugoda and 22 CoD4 teams have entered for the tournament hoping to take home the coveted trophy.
PeRks played their first match with [XeOn]Hybrid on mp_crossfire. [XeOn]Hybrid, a LAN team from Colombo, had no hope against the much experienced PeRks team and lost their qualifier round 13-2. PeRks moved on to 2nd stage of the tournament to face MAX B. PeRks II had a surprise start to the tournament when they had their first match with Death Company's DC|XD team after being given a walkover in the first round. DC|XD pulled off some great individual performances and some jaw dropping clutches to defeat PeRks II with a score of 13 - 8. DC|XD team proved that they are the most underrated team in Sri Lanka by moving on to the semi finals by defeating MAX D, PeRks II and nA|Blood. They lost their chance for a shot at the title when they lost to nA|Aurum in the OT round.
In the match against MAX B, Perks defeated the opposing team 13 - 0 & 13 - 6 in mp_backlot & mp_crossfire respectively to secure their place in the semi finals. At the start of the semi finals there were some colorful pre-game activities and shout casting done to lighten up the tense mood of both teams. Sem Finals of SLCG was played between PeRks and their long time rivals MAXA. Their was led by former PeRks member Razeen "DirkBlack" Rahumathulla and included some of the best CoD4 players in Sri Lanka. MAX A had a 'score' to settle with PeRks as in all of their previous encounters PeRks has emerged as the winner. At one point score was 3-1 in favor of MAX A in mp_strike but PeRks read their strats with surgical precision and took the game back to win the first map 13 - 7. In second map, mp_backlot, PeRks sealed their victory against MAX with a comprehensive 13- 6. At the end of the match there were some emotional moments from MAX A when their hopes of SLCG title ended at the hands of PeRks once again. It was one of the best matches in Sri Lanka played on LAN and both POV and Shoutcaster demos are available to download.
Many of the PeRks members have some bad memories of previous year SLCG when their team DC|Reds, tournament favorites, lost to n00bAlliance in the semi finals in CoD4 HC. For MadHatter, Toxin, Psycho, and Pirate it was the the day of redemption. n00bAlliance team roster for finals included Chanaka "archer" Ariyarathna, Malinda "Warrior" Jayasekera, Arnold "Dog" DeZilva, Pamith "Lulu" Kodikara and Fluffy.
Pre game atmosphere was intense as both team prepared and tweaked their game play getting ready for the finals. PeRks selected mp_strike as their map while nA chose mp_crossfire as their map. PeRks won the knife round on mp_crossfire and decided to attack. They were counting on their 'Chaos' strategy to win the attack side. PeRks led the game 3 - 1 but nA regrouped and came back strongly to end the first half 7 - 5 in favor of PeRks leaving the game wide open for both teams in the 2nd half. PeRks anticipated a strong comeback from nA while attacking but went ahead with their plan on hunting the attackers. PeRks played with much more confidence than in the first half and nA failed to capitalize on their score in defense making the final score 13 - 5 in favor of PeRks.
PeRks played defense in mp_strike while nA opted to attack. After the first map win PeRks were much confident of their game and played as if they would do in a normal game, taking risks and leaving nothing for luck. It was pure poetry in motion to watch Hydro taking an ACE, My$tery taking out the last man with 2 secs to spare, MadHatter, Toxin and Pirate taking crack shots at the attacking team. At the end of first half score was 8 - 4 in favor of PeRks. Second half was more than just a formality as PeRks played with much enthusiasm knowing that SLCG trophy was theirs to take. Finals ended with a 13 - 6 but nA showing true sportsmanship never gave up and played till the last man.
PeRks once again proved that they are the undefeated champion of Call of Duty 4 in Sri Lanka by winning the coveted Sri Lanka Cyber Games 09 Trophy.
